The SOK

The Speak Out Kit (SOK) is a tool designed by ChildTRAC that allows children to communicate how they feel about their world; to speak out about their current situation and wellbeing in a pressure free environment.

Presented as a game, the SOK will invite a child to voice any concerns or feelings they may have regarding their current situation without fear of judgement, reprimand or external influences.

The SOK is being designed to appeal to children visually; carefully planned questions will entice the child to express their opinions about family members, caregivers and locations frequented by them, using coloured dolls and foam cut-outs of different people and places to represent each one.

The Child will then be asked to assign an emotion to each of these people and places to provide trained staff with indicators necessary to assess the child’s circumstances and well-being.
The Speak Out Kit is being fashioned to adapt easily to varying cultures and circumstances and is currently in the process of being developed to specifically suit Burmese migrant children living in Thailand.

The SOK is a tool designed especially to assess children and requires specialist training in order for it to be effective.

Organisations or individuals wishing to use the SOK should contact ChildTRAC directly for further information.

ChildTRAC does not accept responsibility for parties who attempt to use the SOK without the required training.
